Abstract

In this paper, a new notion of power system stability is introduced, namely structural stability, and its significance in the context of load modeling is examined. It is shown that beyond certain values of load indices (in the case of static models) and beyond certain value of the dynamic component (in loads such as induction motors), the power system may become structurally unstable. The immediate application of these results is in voltage stability problems.
