Abstract
Nano Pd and Pt carbon nano-onion composites have been synthesized by a facile redox route. Glucose was used as a stabilizing agent to prevent agglomeration of Pd/Pt NPs. Water soluble carbon nano onions (WSCNOs) were derived from pyrolysis of wood wool. Nano Pd and Pt carbon nano-onion composites show ferromagnetic properties both at room as well as low temperature. These nano composite materials reveal high electrochemical activity and excellent catalytic character for alcohol elctrooxidation on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) in alkaline medium. The results indicate that Pd/Pt–CNO composite could be used as a potential material in direct alcohol fuel cells.
