Abstract

Titanium components fabricated in shops are often contaminated with iron particles on the surface that act as anodic sites for dissolution. Titanium specimens were tested by anodic polarization in 1 N nitric acid (HNO3) to understand their corrosion behavior. Increased iron concentration yielded inferior corrosion resistance because of formation of secondary iron-rich precipitates.
