Abstract

Interest in Indian Ocean fisheries has been a comparatively recent development in the history of the world fisheries and has principally stemmed from efforts of countries like India to set up supply of protein to their large populations. Fishery potential was used as an impressive argument to stimulate interest in the project in Asian and African countries during IIOE programmes. This paper highlights the aspects of Indian ocean like biological fisheries yield, future prospects with regard to Indian Ocean fisheries.
