Abstract
A simple method is presented for maintaining critically damped response in a second-order system using a high frequency sinusoidal test signal. It is shown that it is not necessary to identify the parameters completely to check the response of the system. A graphical technique which involves drawing of constant M loci, constant tan φ loci and the curve corresponding to critical damping in the parameter plane (for determining the adjustment law), is given. An example is worked out suggesting the adaptive scheme. Computer simulated results for the example are also included.
