Abstract
Somatic embryos were obtained from leaflet-derived callus of Cicer arietinum L. For obtaining a high frequency of embryogenic cultures, growth regulator supplement and incubation conditions during the callusing phase are critical. MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/1 each of 2,4-D and BAP and dark incubation was found best for producing embryogenic callus. High frequency of embryogenesis was obtained after transferring the callus to MS medium supplemented with IAA and BAP.
