Abstract
A simple two-dimensional model has been developed to account for crack-closure effect on stress intensity factor (SIF) in bending of plates with through cracks, taking shear deformation into account. The model makes use of point load, solutions of elasticity and a special crack tip finite element analysis to obtain corrective, additive terms to be applied to SIF calculated for no closure case.
