Abstract
Frequency equation for the toroidal oscillations of a model earth is obtained in an analytic form. Five models considered in the paper are: heterogeneous mantle, liquId core; heterogeneous mantle, rigid core; heterogeneous mantle, solid core; heterogeneous crust, heterogeneous mantle, liquid core; and homogeneous crust, homogeneous mantle liquId core. The assumed heterogeneity is such that the shear-wave velocity is constant in each region.
