Abstract
Uncoupled equations of motion, including the source-term, for P, SV and SH waves in vertically inhomogeneous, elastic media are derived. In the high frequency approximation, these equation can be reduced to the inhomogeneous Helmholtz equation with depth-dependent wave numbers. The reduced wave equation is solved for two refractive index profiles: linear and parabolic. This yields elementary solutions for a horizontal line source in vertically inhomogeneous, isotropic, elastic media.
