Abstract

The results of electrical resistance (ϱ), magnetoresistance (Δϱ/ϱ) and magnetization (M) measurements are reported for polycrystalline SmMn2Ge2. Sharp variations in ϱ at 108 and 142 K attributable to well-known magnetic transitions from Mn sublattice are noted. Sign of the ϱ across these transitions exhibits anomalies. Δϱ/ϱ data indicate the existence of a hitherto unrecognized magnetic anomaly near 30 K, presumably of ferrimagnetic type as revealed by isothermal M data at low temperatures.
