Abstract

DC magnetic susceptibility ( chi ) and electrical resistivity ( rho ) measurements in the compound La1.8Sr0.2CuO4 prove the existence of a superconducting phase transition around Tc=36 K in conformity with a recent report (Cava et al., 1987). The compounds La2-xCaxCuO4 (x=0.1, 0.15 and 0.2) exhibit superconductivity at lower temperatures. No correlation is found between Tc and the size of the cation substituted at the La site.
