Abstract

In a number of metals, the temperature dependence of aie quadrupole interaction follows a T3/2-law. There are certain rare earth materials such as EuCu2Si2 where the average valency of the rare earth ion does not remain constant and varies as a function of temperature. This should give rise to a deviation from the T3/2-law as observed here in EuCu2Si2. The results of our preliminary studies on the system Ce1-xScxAl2 are also described. These results are of interest with respect to the valence state of Ce in such pseudobinary systems.
