Abstract

Creep curves have been analysed in detail in order to obtain source data for a more exact prediction of life of components subjected to creep conditions. Materials investigated were a 2.25Cr--1Mo steel at 550 deg C and the Ni base alloy NiCr22Co12Mo at 800 deg C. The dependence of the creep rate on stress and time have been considered. For the 2.25Cr--1Mo steel decreasing creep resistance due to carbide coarsening and transient creep following stress changes were found to cause deviations from the predictions made by the strain hardening rule, which is frequently used for the estimation of creep life.
