Abstract

This paper provides a comprehensive account of the role of indigenous cultures in the conservation of biodiversity in India, highlighting the importance of sacred groves dedicated to local deities, tree worship, plants associated with mythology, conservation of indigenous plant genetic diversity and cultivation of wild plants in tribal yards in the conservation.
