Abstract
Studied the effects of Celastrus paniculatus seeds (Jyotismati) on behavioral measures in rats under controlled laboratory conditions. Jyotismati (2 g/kg) was administered for 90 days to 20 albino Wistar rats, beginning at age 30 days, while 20 additional rats served as controls. Drug-treated Ss were found to have a stronger autonomic nervous system, a significant rate of adaptation to a stressful situation, and better retention of operant responses under reinforcement. It is suggested that the psychoactive drug treatment increased learning rate and facilitated the retention of learned behavior. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)
