Abstract

We have outlined a scenario in which a Be star ejects a ring of matter in a quasi-periodic fashion. With an assumed rapidly rotating core, we find that the transport of angular momentum to the outer regions of the star can destabilize the already near-critical outer layers. These outer regions are confined from flowing out by a magnetic field and with increasing angular momentum a Rayleigh-Taylor type instability can develop leading to the episodic ejection of gas in the equatorial regions.
