Abstract
Surface acidity/basicity and catalytic activity/selectivity of alkaline earth (Ca, Ba and Sr) promoted CeO2, Nd2O3 and Sm2O3 catalysts in oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) at different reaction conditions (temperature = 650° -850° C, CH4/O2 ratio = 4.0 and 8.0 and GHSV = 103,200 cm3.g1.h1) have been investigated. The acidity and basicity of the catalysts is strongly influenced by the promoters. Among the catalysts, Sr-CeO2 showed best catalytic performance. The alkaline earth promoted Nd2O3 and Sm2O3 catalysts are found to be highly active and selective even at low temperature (650° C) in the OCM.
