Abstract

Fast photometric observations of PG 1711+336 are presented. The light curve shows a periodic modulation of ≡2.8 hr. Although variations of ≡0.15 mag, on timescales of ≡10-12 min, are evident throughout the light curve, a search for periodicities in the range 500-1500 s did not reveal any coherent short period in the system. The authors also report that the photometric phase (0.3) of the relatively large-amplitude (0.2 mag) decrease in the light, lasting for ≡10 to 15 min, coincides in phase with the decrease in equivalent width of a few Balmer lines determined by Rosen et al. (1989).
