Abstract

A brief review of the available experimental and theoretical data for cosmic X-ray and gamma-ray emission is presented. Consideration is given to radio studies of massive X-ray binaries; stellar coronae; and optical investigations of X-ray emitting dwarf novae. Among the extragalactic X-ray sources discussed are: quasars and BL Lac sources; Seyfert galaxies; and galaxy clusters. The results of observations of other short time astronomical phenomenon are discussed, including gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and low energy gamma-ray sources. Spectrometric observations of the diffuse cosmic X-ray background carried out with the HEAO 1-A2 satellite are also discussed.
