Abstract

Change in coordination of the Fe2+ ions located inside NaX zeolite framework has been studied during CO+H2 reaction. Coordination state of the Fe2+ ions residing in the sodalite- and supercages has been transformed form tetrahedral to octahedral environment during the CO hydrogenation. These disposed Fe2+tetr ions having changed their coordination are suggested to be the precursors of the iron carbide formation at higher temperature. The iron ions in octahedral coordination, located in the hexagonal prisms of the zeolite lattice, are less accessible for the reaction components and their state has not been significantly modified under the reaction conditions studied.
