Abstract
Most previous laboratory methods for preparation of soil specimens have been intended for homogeneous clays. Here, preparation of a layered soil with alternate layers of fine sand and kaolin is described; the method used closely simulates field conditions. Procedures for sedimentation of layers and techniques for taking vertical, horizontal, and inclined samples are presented. Test results for different samples were found to be reproducible.
