Abstract
A new and seven known species of Iotonchus were collected from different localities in India. Iotonchus shafii n. sp. is close to I. basidontus and I. parabasidontus but differs from both in the more posterior position of its vulva, and in having longer spicules and gubernaculum. The known species are I. risoceiae (Carvalho, 1955) Andrassy, 1958; I. trichurus (Cobb, 1917) Andrassy, 1958; I. monhystera (Cobb, 1917) Jairajpuri, 1970; I. jairi (Lordello, 1958) Clark, 1960; 1. basidontus Clark, 1960; I. parabasidontus Mulvey & Jensen, 1967 and I. indicus Jairajpuri, 1969. A revised classification of Iotonchidae is proposed and two subfamilies lotonchinae and Hadronchinae n. subfam. have been recognised. A key to the species of the genus is provided.
