Abstract

In this paper we consider the pulse propagation in a nonuniform birefringent fibre where the pulse dynamics is governed by the coupled inhomogeneous nonlinear Schrödinger (CINLS) equations. We construct the explicit Lax pair with nonisospectral eigenvalue parameter and the explicit one-soliton solution is obtained using the Darboux-Bäcklund transformation. Constructing the two-soliton solutions of the CINLS equations through suitable mapping, we analyse the pulse compression due to nonuniformities in fibres.
