Abstract

Crosses between 14 varieties resistant to Sogatella furcifera on the one hand and the susceptible Taizhong (Taichung) Native 1 (TN1) on the other were studied using artificial inoculation in the F1-F3. The 14 varieties were also crossed with two lines homozygous for the resistance genes Wbph1 and Wbph2 respectively. In all but two of the varieties, the resistance was controlled by a single dominant gene; in the remaining two varieties, namely Podiwi A8 and ARC6650, it was controlled by a single recessive gene. All the resistance genes were nonallelic to Wbph1 and independent of it. Cheriya Chittari and Chempan had Wbph2. The resistance genes of all the other varieties were nonallelic to Wbph2 and independent of it. The resistance gene of ADR52 is designated Wbph3 and the recessive resistance gene of Podiwi A8 is designated Wbph4 sic.
