Abstract

Studies done on patients with amebic liver abscess have revealed a constant hepatic excretory defect for bromsulphthalein (BSP). This was evident from marked lowering of the transport maximum (Tm), with no significant alteration in storage capacity (S) and conjugation. It is inferred that a similar mechanism might contribute to the pathogenesis of jaundice in such patients.
