Abstract
Ethyl O- methanesulphonyacetoacetate is rearranged by basic and acidic catalysts to the corresponding C-methylsulphonyl ester. Benzenesulphinyl chloride reacts with ethyl acetoacetate to give the C-sulphenylsulphonyl ester (IV), reactions of which are described. The benzoylacetate analogue of (IV) was similarly prepared.
