Abstract

The nature of the absorption spectrum of a system of two strongly coupled autoionizing states each of which can decay to its own continuum is discussed. The interference minimum in the spectrum is found to be quite sensitive to the relative magnitude of the autoionization rates of the uncoupled states. The general considerations also yield the results for the laser-induced autoionization with two exit channels.
