Abstract
Setaria italica Beauv. was grown at Ranchi Agricultural College Farm in 1977 to evaluate the performance of this millet under the hilly conditions of Chotanagpur. In the first year of its cultivation a severe leaf-spot disease was noticed affecting all the ten varieties of the millet. The causative bacterium was found to be Xanthomonas campestris.
