Abstract
The transformation of the histidine side chain to that of Nω-carbamoyl asparagine, Nω-formyl asparagine, Nω-benzoyl asparagine, β-cyano alanine and aspartic acid has been described, involving as the primary step, the Ru(VIII) mediated scission of imidizole 4,5-π bond. Products arising from the rupture of each of the 5 bonds of the imidazole ring of His side chain make their appearance via key intermediate generated by the 4,5-π bond scission with Ru(VIII).
