Abstract
The use of the earth penumbra width for isotopic analysis of cosmic rays in the geomagnetic field is considered. The penumbra width is zero in two regions: in the low latitude region where the rigidity cutoff lies above 11 or 12 GV/c and in the region where the earth shadow cone limits the permissible particle trajectories. Therefore, data should be obtained with very high altitude balloons.
