Abstract

The present paper deals with a design study carried out for an incoherent scatter radar intended for scientific investigations of the troposphere and stratosphere at equatorial latitudes at frequencies of 328, 450, 900, 1200 MHz. A frequency range of 400 to 500 MHz is found to be adequate for the planned scientific objectives. These objectives are to study: the equatorial spread F; the equatorial electrojet and the associated sporadic E; the equatorial anomaly; and equatorial winds, waves, tides, and turbulence in the low-latitude ionosphere.
