Abstract

A detailed study of the distribution of 21-cm emission in the vicinity of the Orion Nebula shows the presence of a neutral hydrogen cloud close to the Nebula which is approaching the Nebula with a velocity of about 14.2 km/s. It is suggested that the conical absorbing band seen in projection against the Nebula is part of the above cloud. The minimum density of neutral hydrogen atoms in the cloud is about 100 cm-2.
