Abstract

Intergeneric hybrids between Hordeum californicum (2n=2x=14) and Triticum aestlvum cv. Chinese Spring (2n=6x=42) were produced at a frequency of 0.79 percent of pollinated florets. The hybrids were wheat-like In morphology, although shorter and self-sterile. The somatic chromosome number was 2n=4x=28 with a mean bivalent frequency of 0.17 per cell, indicating no homology between parental genomes.
