Abstract

Six anticoccidial agents and two growth promoting agents were tested for effects on intestinal passage time in broiler-type chickens. No significant differences were found with experimental birds in floor-pen trials or in individual cages with respect to passage time of a fluorescent pigment administered in the feed or in gelatin capsules. No alteration in the motility or inducement of stasis was found through use of amprolium + ethopabate, clopidol, monensin, buquinolate, zoalene, decoquinate, bacitracin or roxarsone. These results do not substantiate the hypothesis that outbreaks of necrotic enteritis are induced by stasis following use of these products
