Abstract

Recently many authors have shown that interactions which flip neutrino helicity could have dramatic implications for the cooling of hot neutron matter during stellar collapse. In this letter a hitherto unexplored possibility of gravitational interactions causing such a helicity flip is considered. For low-energy neutrinos, it is shown that the gravitational helicity flip could overwhelm other causes of helicity flip. In addition, it is shown that the cooling rate of neutron stars can limit the strength of parity violating gravitational helicity flips. The bound so obtained is better than the limits known at present by a least two orders of magnitude.
