Abstract
The problem of sudden subsidance of half the surface of an elastic half-space into a given cylindrical form has been solved. The essential steps in the solution of the problem are the adoption of NOBLE'S solution of a particular kind of dual integral equaions and CAGNIARD'S method of inversion of Laplace transforms.
