Abstract
Edgeworth expansions are obtained for the ratio of the marginal sample means X̅ and Y̅ of the i.i.d. observations (X1, Y1), ..., (Xn, Yn), where one of them is a counting variable, and for the ratio of two such independent ratios. Such ratios arise in survival analysis in measuring and comparing the risk of exposure of individuals to hazardous environments. The explicit expressions in the Edgeworth expansions are derived.
