Abstract
The transition theory for elastic plastic deformation, developed in recent papers, has been applied to the torsion of a circulation cylinder. No yield condition is used. It is found that the secondary axial stresses in the fully plastic state have a longitudinal singularity on the axis of the cylinder, thus indicating that there is always a core of material, which remains elastic. The numerical results obtained show good agreement with the experimental results of Bader and Nadai, Poynting and Reiner.
