Abstract

The counterpropagating beams in the four-wave mixing geometry with parallelly polarized beams give rise to transmission gratings which are out of phase. This may be used to advantage in controlling beam fanning in BaTiO3. The counterpropagating beam, if tilted, also sets up near self-oscillation conditions in the presence of beam fanning. Such self-oscillation has been reported in Bi12TiO20. We present here the results of experimental and numerical investigations of the interaction between counterpropagating beams and beam fanning in BaTiO3.
