Abstract

A (+)leucocyanidin has been isolated from the gum of Butea frondosa, its acetate and methyl ether prepared and studied. The leucocyanidin is 5:7:3':4'-tetrahydroxyflavan-3:4-diol. The methyl ether and the acetate have also been prepared by borohydride reduction of taxifolin tetramethyl ether and taxifolin respectively.
