Abstract

A density matrix analysis is presented of the effects of inhomogeneity in the radio frequency field H1 on spin-lattice relaxation measurements by the ∏-τ-∏/2 pulse sequence. By taking into account the decay of magnetization in the x-y plane during the time interval τ it is shown that the apparent magnetization recovery curve is nonexponential when T1 ˜ T2. Proper corrections are given for calculating T1 from the null method experiment.
