Abstract

This chapter delves into the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on urban street food vendors in Bengaluru, a city known for its vibrant street food culture. Through in-depth interviews with 26 vendors, the study reveals the devastating effects of the lockdown on their livelihoods and the resilience they demonstrated in coping with the crisis. The narratives shed light on the vulnerabilities of these vendors, who are a vital part of the city's informal economy, and their struggle to reclaim their place in the city. The chapter also discusses the broader implications of the pandemic on rural-urban migration and urban inclusion, offering valuable insights for policymakers and urban planners.
