Abstract

The cw photomodulation technique has been used to investigate trapped photocarriers in the semiconducting parents of the CuO high Tc materials. In YBa2Cu3O6+x (x < 0.4) and La2CuO4 we have observed a photoinduced absorption band which is analogous to the doping induced absorption band observed in these materials. We tentatively identify this band as intraplane hole transitions within the oxygen electronic band.
