Abstract

Integrated magnitudes and colours of population I synthetic clusters have been derived using the theoretical evolutionary tracks given by Stothers and Iben and an age-dependent initial mass function (IMF) obtained from the data of Tarrab. A comparison of the theoretically obtained integrated para- meters with the observational data of open clusters in . the Milky Way and clusters in the LMC has also been made. It is found that the observed dependences show a better agreement with the theoretical dependences obtained in the present work than the theoretical dependences obtained by earlier authors (Dixon, Ford & Robertson; Searle, Sargent & Bagnuolo; Barbaro & Bertelli and Chiosi, Bertelli & Bressan). It is also concluded that the clusters in the LMC in general show a mean reddening of E(B-V) ⋍ 0.12 mag.
