Abstract
This special issue of Journal of Raman Spectroscopy is published in honour of Professor Hiro-o Hamaguchi on the occasion of his 60th birthday. The papers have been contributed by his colleagues who have had and continue to have the privilege of working with or alongside him. They highlight some of the areas in which Hiro-o has made significant contributions to vibrational spectroscopy, including time-resolved spectroscopy, instrument and technique development, microscopy and the application of Raman spectroscopy to probe biological systems.
