Abstract

The nuclear magnetic resonance of 119Sn and the magnetic susceptibility have been studied in the intermetallic compound USn3 in the temperature range 100-400°K. A strong temperature dependence has been found in the 119Sn Knight shift and its variation with susceptibility is linear. The results have been interpreted in terms of the admixture of the uranium 5ƒ wavefunctions with the tin 5s wavefunctions. The effect of s-ƒ exchange has been considered. The contribution to the susceptibility from the Kubo-Obata permagnetism of the 5ƒ band has been estimated.
