Abstract

We have constructed a generalization of "globally" coupled maps, where the speed of information propagation can vary, giving rise to an "effective mean field", which involves suitably time-delayed state variables of the various lattice sites. We report the wealth of spatiotemporal phases our prototypical model yields and describe the systematic effects of the various parameters on the dynamical characteristics of the system.
