Abstract

The glue genes of Drosophila are expressed under control of a steroid hormone in the salivary glands of third instar larvae. In this review, we describe the cis-and transacting elements that regulate expression of Sgs-3, one of the glue genes. We also describe the normal association of Sgs-3 expression with a polytene chromosome puff, as well as mutations that uncouple puffing from gene expression.
