Abstract
The kinetics of the nonenzymic hydrolysis of adenosine-5'-triphosphate[ATP] in aqueous solutions has been studied at 56·0° and 64·0°, over a broad pH range 3·0-9·0, and μ=0·1 (KNO3). The reaction was followed by measuring calorimetrically the inorganic orthosphosphate liberated according to the overall reaction ATP + H2O → ADP + Pi. pH-rate profiles have been analysed and the overall rate constants have been resolved into individual rate constants relating to the various ionic species in solution. Thermodynamic activation parameters, ΔH≠, ΔS≠, and ΔF≠, for the specific rate constants of the various ionic species are reported.
