Abstract
Sub-bandgap response has been shown to be a powerful and sensitive indicator of the nature of the surfaces of n-CdTe photoelectrodes. It has been shown that surface modification of n-CdTe photoelectrodes by Ru3+ ions diminishes sub-bandgap response in Te2-/Te22- redox electrolyte but on heat treatment it enhances. It is further shown that surface dissolution in [Fe(CN)6]4-/3- redox leads to enhanced sub-bandgap response. The results are correlated with the increase in flat-band potential and contact-potential-difference (CPD) due to Ru3+ modification as demonstrated by C-V and CPD measurements.
